    From 1100 to 1200 the Capetian family gained at the expense of local robber barons and their capital, not withstanding the rise of the rival Angevin familiy, became the religious and cultural center of France; in sum, France went from polycentric (and sometimes anarchic) to bi-centric with Paris being the more dramatic gainer.
