Évora

Évora is a city of nearly 57 thousand1 located in the plains of the Alentejo Central Intermunicipal Community of Portugal. Its center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that honors the old houses with their whitewashed tile-roofed houses, its terraces, and its wrought iron and azulejo (ceramic tile) decoration. Specific buildings among those honored are: the so-called Temple of Diana from Roman times; the cathedral, mostly completed by the 14th century; the Palace of the Counts of Basto and the Church of the Knights of Calatrava, both from the 15th century; the Agua da Prata aqueduct from the 16th century; and the University of the Holy Spirit.2
