Elat,1 is a city at the southernmost point of ישראל (Yisra'el or Israel), immediately adjacent to العقبة (al-'Aqabah), الادنن (al-'Urdunn). It has a population of about 56 thousand2 and is originally a major port for bulk commodities,3 although tourism is increasingly important. The airport is regionally important.
