The pre-Christian religion of the three Baltic groups included families of gods, some Indo-European and some not. Gods of the sun and the thunderstorm, and goddesses of childbirth and fate were important. Religious leaders in an ecstatic state fought sorcerers. Some of these leaders took on--in their minds--wolf form (lyncanthropy).
