Dresden

Dresden, Germany,1 has a metropolitan area of 1.1 million, with about half of them living in the city proper. The city is centered on the left bank of the Elbe, although extending to the other bank, and is not far downstream from the Czech border. Secular buildings include the Dresden castle2 with its 100 meter tower, the Zwinger Palace,3 the Transparent Factory (for VWs) and the modern4 UFA-Kristallpalast cinema. There is also a golden equestrian statue of August the Strong.
