Cuenca, a city of over 57 thousand,1 is on a spur between the gorges of the Júcar River and one of its tributaries, in its eponymous province, Castile-La Mancha Autonomous Community, in España (Spain). The city is honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, not as much for its buildings (such as the cathedral, the bits of the Moorish castle or the episcopal palace) as its walled townscape, including the casas colgadas (hanging houses), that overlook the cliff edges.2
