Christchurch

Christchurch is located at1 and just north of the Banks Peninsula on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. The center of the city is along the Avon River. The urban area has 375 thousand residents, with 362 thousand of them under the city council.2 It is served by Christchurch International Airport, one of the nation's busiest.3 The tallest structure is the Sugarloaf TV Tower (397 feet), and the tallest conventional building is the residential Pacific Tower (2010, 23 stories, 282 feet).4 The important container port5 of Lyttleton is within the current bounds of the city.
