제주 (Cheju, also transliterated as Jeju), is a city of 424 thousand residents1 that occupies the northern half of the island with which it shares a name, in 대한 (Daehan or South Korea). The city bounds include part of the island's World Heritage Site: the northern part of Mount Hallasan, the island's big volcano, and the Kŏmunŏrŭm (Geomeonoreum), a complex of lava tubes.2 The natural attractions bring tourists to the island3 and so the airport is among the nation's busiest.4 The tallest building as of early 2016 is the Jeju Kal Hotel (226 feet, 18 stories).5
