Brugge

Brugge is a city of just over 100 thousand1 in België (Belgique or Belgium) located on a passage to the North Sea that silted up in the Renaissance period. The tallest building is Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, a 14th century church with a brick tower over 100 meters high and containing Michelangelo's Madonna and Child. The Belfort van Brugge is part of the World Heritage site of Belfries in Belgium and France. This old building, with parts burned and reconstructed from the 13th into the 19th century, and with a tower dating from the 15th is the centerpiece of the World Heritage site for the historic center of Brugge. The last of the city's Unesco honored sites is its Béguinage, part of the World Heritage site of Béguinages of Belgium.
