Brnno is a moderate-large city on the Svratka River1 in southern Morava (Moravia), Česká (Czech) Republic, with a metropolitan population of 728 thousand,2 386 thousand of which live in the city proper.3 The tallest building is the 30 story AZ Tower, a mixed use structure completed in 20134 but the most honored building is the Tugendhat Villa, which is UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mies van de Rohe was the villa's architect, and he designed even the modernist furniture, which has been restored since World War II.5 The city's demography changed in the 20th century, first with the murder of almost all of the Jews, and then with the expulsion of the Germans. The German residents called the city Brünn.
The mathematician Gödel was born here.
