Bayonne, with 40 thousand residents,1 is located along the Adour River, where it is joined by the Nive, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Department of the Acquitaine Region of France. The Sainte-Marie cathedral is a way stop for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, and as such is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tallest modern building is the tower Résidence Plein-Ciel (14 stories, 156 feet).2
