In the far northwest of México is the skinny peninsula of Baja California with a central to east spine of mountains. It is separated from the rest of Mexico by the Gulf of California(4). At the head of the gulf is the mouth of the Colorado River(5) which crosses the harsh Sonoran desert.
In the center of the peninsula is Lake Ojo de Liebre.
