Avignon

Avignon has 90 thousand residents1 and is located on the left bank of the Rhône River in Vaucluse Department, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur (Provence-Alps-Azure Coast) Region, France. UNESCO honors some of its medieval buildings: the Palais des Papes (Papal Palace),2 the Cathedral of Notre-Deames-des-Doms, the Petits Palais (Little Palace) and the remains of the Pont (Bridge) Saint-Bénézet, better known--especially in song--as the Pont d'Avignon.3 The tallest modern buildings are five 13 story residential towers.4
