Anhui(1) Province(2)(China(3))

How is the land laid out?

In the north is the Huai River (he) basin. On the river's left is a piece of the North China Plain called the Huaibei Plain. On its right the land rises to hills separated this basin from that of the Yangzte (Chiang) River (jiang). Both basins are flood prone, but the Yangtze has spill lakes (hu), most notably the Chao, which lessen the threat with connecting rivers which can reverse their flow. The plain here is known as the Yanjiang Plain. In the west along the Hubei(4) border and beyond are the Dabie Mountains. In the south are more low mountains (shan) including the scenic Mount Huang and one of the Four Buddhist Mountains of China: Mount Jiuhua.

Who lives there?

The government of Anhui Province, in central_and_northeastern China resides in Hefei. Among the other 15 cities (shi) with over a million residents are Huainan, Huaibei and Bengbu.
