Alicante-Elche

Alicante-Elche is a metropolitan area of more than 785 thousand,1 comprising the cities of Alicante, with a population of over 334 thousand,2 and Elche, with a population of nearly 229 thousand.3 Alicante is located along the Costa Blanca (White Coast); Elche is inland about 11 kilometers. Both are in Alicante Province of the Valenciana Autonomous Community of España (Spain). The palmerol (date palm orchard) in Elche dates back to Islamic times and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.4

The tallest building in either city is Estudiotel Alicante (384 feet, 1962).5

The regional airport, located in Elche, is one of the nation's busiest.6
