Agrigento

Agrigento (locally called Girgenti) is a city of 59 thousand1 within its eponymous province, overlooking the southwest coast of the island of Sicilia,2 in Italia.3 UNESCO honors as a World Heritage Site the classical remains. Among these are the foundations of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, one of the largest Greek temples; the Temple of Concord, said to be the best preserved Doric temple after the Parthenon of Athínai (Athens); residential remains extending into the Roman period; and cemeteries extending into the Christian period.4
