अहमदनगर (Ahmadnagar)

अहमदनगर (Ahmadnagar),1, formerly احمدنگر (Aḥmadnagar) is the capital of its district, within नाशिक (Nāshik) Division in महाराश्त्र (Mahārāshtra),2 भारत (Bhārat).3 It is located near the river Sina, a tributary of the Bhīma, and had a population of 351 thousand in 2011.4 The city became prominent as the capital of the Aḥmadnagar Sultanat. The fort from that period was later used as a prison for Jawaharlal Nehru. Today the city is an important military and sugar processing center.5
